better late than never?

Yes, yes I realize that Easter was many weeks ago....remember, I am not a chronological blogger...therefore you should not be surprised that I am just now saying "Happy Bunny" (as Carter would say :) This time was too special not to remember, so I'm posting about it, even if it was awhile ago.

Eric's mom, or "Mama Deb" as the kids call her, has been fighting breast cancer for months and months now. She is still going through chemotherapy but is doing so well. I've written this on the blog we made for her, but I am always just so amazed by her strength and tenacity. Being around her reminds me to stop sweating the small stuff...to sit back and enjoy life. Not to mention the fact that on any given day I am positive she accomplishes more than I do...seriously.
Mama Deb and Papa Jay both graciously invited us over to color Easter eggs with the kids and do a special secret scavenger hunt for Easter baskets. Sorry mom if you're reading this (which I know you're not...because you never read my blog) but I seriously don't remember coloring eggs as a kid. I'm sure I did...but I was fascinated this year by the entire process. Who knew that little tablets and vinegar made such pretty colors? I really do think, and not ashamedly so, I was excited as the kids were.

When all the eggs were done soaking in their baths (that's what Katie kept saying)...we set them off to dry and let the kids take off on their scavenger hunt. Mama Deb and Papa Jay planted notes all over the house that told them where to go next to find their baskets. They even had to go out to Mommy's car! It was really cute...and when they finally found them they were overjoyed with bubbles, play-doh, books, and just a little chocolate candy :) They quickly ran outside to use their new dora and diego bubbles with papa jay and eric. We had a really good time. As always, thank you for having us.

It turned out to be a very busy, but very fun day. After we were done at Eric's parent's house, we headed home for a quick nap and then off to Anderson to a HUGE gathering of a lot of Eric's work friends. The egg hunt alone had over 400 eggs! The kids were totally into it. I wish I had pictures, but I guess I felt kinda lost and uncomfortable in a crowd of people I didn't know to be carrying around my beloved Nikon and snapping photos. The kids had their faces painted, found a ton of eggs with toys and candy and climbed around on the one of the coolest swingsets I've ever seen. I guess I will put that on the wish list.

To conclude the holiday...the kids and I got dressed up and went to church on Easter morning. Yes, Katie and Carter both looked adorable, and no they would not cooperate for one single picture. KJ loved to twirl in her pink and black dress...and Carter was adorable in his white dress shirt and blue pinstriped pants. He looked just like a little man. My church does a really neat celebration for Easter and when you walk into the sanctuary there are two massive "banqueting" tables lavishly filled with food. I always want my kids to be reminded that yes, it is fun to hunt for eggs and get special treats, but he has risen...and we celebrate, just like we will celebrate one day at his banqueting table. All in all, it was a blessed holiday.

the musical Easter bunny that has made its appearance in the Hepler household for many many years was a huge hit...we eventually had to hide it because we couldn't take the music anymore.

i love it! I want to do this all the time now... (I don't even like hard-boiled eggs, though)

Carter and Eric making sure his color is "just right"

Katie and Carter were both really good about the eggs, neither of them broke any, and Katie was super careful about getting her egg out with the "catcher."

she seriously thought this was SO cool. KJ, I agree.

my favorite egg (made by Carter and Eric) but I could be biased...

our final product....I was pretty proud
